1. How much does it cost to record at Select Recording Studios in London?
At Select Recording Studios, we believe professional recording should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Our recording sessions start from £50 per hour, with no minimum booking time. Your session includes the use of our professional recording facilities and the experience of our in-house producer and engineer, Paul Miles. We also offer reduced rates for longer sessions and block bookings. Visit our Booking & Rates page for prices specific to your project.
2. Do I need to bring my own recording engineer?
Absolutely not! Every recording session at Select Recording Studios is personally engineered by Paul Miles, our in-house producer, musician and recording artist, with over 25 years of professional industry experience. From setting up microphones to capturing the perfect vocal performance, mixing and production, you'll have experienced technical support throughout your session.
3. I've never been in a recording studio before. Can you help me?
Of course! We regularly work with artists who are recording for the very first time. You don't need to be an experienced musician or know anything about recording equipment. Paul will guide you through the process, help you feel comfortable and get the best possible performance from you. Whether you're recording your first song or your tenth album, you're welcome at Select.
4. Can I record a song using my own backing track or instrumental?
Yes! If you've already written your song and have an instrumental or backing track, you can bring it into the studio and record your vocals over it. Whether you're a singer, rapper or songwriter, we'll help you capture your performance and work towards a professional finished recording.
5. Can Select Recording Studios produce my song from scratch?
Yes. If you've written some lyrics, have a melody in your head or simply have an idea for a song, talk to us about our music production and songwriting services. With over 25 years of experience, Paul can help develop musical ideas, arrange and produce tracks and work with you towards creating a complete production.
6. How long will it take to record my song?
Every artist and project is different. Some singers may only need an hour or two to record their vocals, while others may want a full day to work on several songs. Because we have no minimum booking time, you can arrange a session that suits your requirements and budget. If you're unsure how much time you'll need, speak to us before booking.
7. Can I record rap, hip-hop and grime at Select Recording Studios?
Definitely! We regularly work with rappers and hip-hop artists, whether you're recording over an existing instrumental or developing a track from scratch. We can guide you through vocal recording, production, mixing and mastering. We also have experience across grime, R&B, trap, drill, pop and many other styles.
8. Can a full band record together at your studio?
Yes! Select Recording Studios has fully equipped live rooms suitable for bands and groups recording together. Whether you're working on a single, EP or full album, our professional recording equipment and Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition mixing desk provide the facilities for recording live instruments and multi-track productions.
9. What recording equipment do you have at Select Recording Studios?
We have invested in professional recording equipment to give artists the best possible recording experience. At the heart of the studio is our Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition large-format mixing console, supported by professional microphones, high-quality preamps, compressors, outboard processing, studio monitoring and an extensive collection of modern recording software and plugins. We combine traditional analogue recording techniques with modern digital production.
10. Do you offer professional mixing and mastering?
Yes. We offer professional mixing and mastering for solo artists, singers, rappers, bands and music producers. Whether you've recorded at Select or elsewhere, we can help turn your individual tracks into a polished, balanced and release-ready production. We also offer online mixing and mastering for artists who cannot travel to our North London studio.
11. Can you help improve my existing home recording?
Yes. If you've recorded vocals or instruments at home but aren't happy with the finished sound, speak to us about our mixing and mastering services. We can assess your recordings and discuss what may be possible to improve the overall sound and presentation of your music.
12. What styles of music do you record?
We work with a wide variety of musical genres, including R&B, pop, rock, hip-hop, grime, dance, metal, electro, jazz, gospel, country and musical theatre. Our experience across different styles means we can adapt our recording and production approach to suit your music rather than trying to make every artist sound the same.
13. Can I record an entire album or EP at Select Recording Studios?
Absolutely! We work with artists on everything from individual singles and debut releases to complete EPs and albums. Having the same producer, engineer and recording environment throughout your project helps maintain consistency and develop your sound. We can discuss your plans and arrange sessions to suit your recording schedule.
14. Do you offer songwriting and music production?
Yes. As well as recording, we offer songwriting and music production services. Whether you're a songwriter who needs help developing an arrangement or a singer looking to turn an idea into a finished song, we can discuss your requirements and how we can help bring your musical ideas to life.
15. Can I have my music mixed and mastered without visiting the studio?
Yes! We offer remote online mixing and mastering services for artists, bands and producers throughout the UK and internationally. You can send us your recorded audio files and we'll work on your project without you needing to travel to North London. It's a convenient way to benefit from professional studio mixing and mastering wherever you're based.
