Work Directly With Producer Paul Miles

Select Recording Studios is led by music producer, audio engineer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Miles. Paul has spent more than 25 years helping artists develop their sound and turn musical ideas into finished recordings.

As a guitarist, bass player and keyboard player, Paul can create and record instrumental parts for your song. This means you do not necessarily need to hire additional musicians. He works directly with you throughout the project, providing creative ideas without taking control of your artistic vision.

Our approach is patient and collaborative. We want you to leave with a song that sounds professional while still sounding like you.

Music Production Across Multiple Genres

We have produced music across a wide range of styles, including:

  • Pop and dance
  • Hip-hop, rap and grime
  • R&B and Afrobeat
  • Indie and rock
  • Metal and alternative music
  • Gospel and country
  • Jazz, blues and acoustic music
  • Musical theatre

Every genre requires a different production approach. A pop song may need polished vocals and memorable hooks, while hip-hop depends on the relationship between the beat, flow and vocal sound. Rock production must preserve the energy of live instruments without losing clarity.

Bring Us an Unfinished Song

Many artists delay booking a studio because they believe their song must already be complete. It does not.

You can come to us with:

  • Lyrics without music
  • A melody or voice note
  • Chords and a basic song structure
  • A beat that needs vocals or further production
  • A rough home recording
  • An unfinished demo
  • A song that needs a new arrangement
  • An existing recording that requires professional mixing

We will establish what is working, identify what the song still needs and agree on the best way to complete it.

Our Music Production Process

1. Tell Us About Your Song

Send us your demo, lyrics, voice note or reference tracks. Tell us which artists or songs inspire you and what you want the finished recording to achieve.

2. Plan the Production

We will discuss the arrangement, instrumentation, vocal recording and production direction. We can also advise how much studio time your project is likely to require.

3. Record and Produce

Work with Paul in a relaxed studio environment. We will develop the instrumental, record your vocals and refine the performance. You can complete multiple takes until we capture the result you want.

4. Mix and Master

Your recordings are edited and balanced before mixing and mastering. This gives the finished song clarity, impact and consistency across headphones, speakers and streaming services.

5. Receive Your Finished Files

You will receive high-resolution WAV files and MP3 copies. Where agreed, we can also provide an instrumental version, a cappella, performance backing track or individual stems.

Vocal Recording and Coaching

Recording vocals can feel intimidating, especially during a first studio session. We provide a patient and supportive environment where you can relax, practise difficult sections and record as many takes as needed within your booked session.

Vocal support can include phrasing, timing, microphone technique, harmonies and performance guidance. Professional vocal coaching can also be arranged with Gemma, our experienced vocal coach, for artists who want additional help and confidence.

Our private vocal booth gives you space to concentrate without feeling watched by everyone in the control room.

Mixing and Mastering

Professional production does not end when the recording is finished. Mixing brings the vocals, instruments and effects together, while mastering prepares the completed track for release.

We provide mixing and mastering for music recorded at our studio and offer an online mixing service for artists who have recorded elsewhere. Instrumental versions, a cappellas and alternative mixes can also be supplied when arranged as part of the project.

We understand that many independent artists finance their own music. Our aim is to make experienced production and professional recording accessible without unnecessary costs or confusing charges.

FAQs: Music Production

Preparation

Proper preparation before booking a recording studio ensures you maximize your budget and achieve a professional sound. Start by locking in your song’s arrangement, key, and tempo (BPM) so precious studio time isn't spent rewriting parts.

If using instrumental stems, organize and export high-quality WAV files starting at the exact same position (bar 1, beat 1). Practice your parts to a metronome until execution is muscle memory. Bring two commercial reference tracks so the engineer understands your sonic vision immediately.

Lastly, practice proper vocal warm-ups before arriving, stay hydrated, and bring non-sugary snacks to keep your stamina up. Arriving fully prepared allows you to focus purely on performance, resulting in a hit-ready master track.

Music Producer's Role

At Select Recording Studios, the music producer’s role is essential in transforming basic vocal or melodic ideas into a polished, complete song.

A producer brings deep knowledge of diverse musical styles and contemporary trends, helping shape arrangements, refine song structures, and elevate lyrical themes. Beyond creative direction, they offer an experienced pair of ears to ensure both technical precision and artistic impact are achieved efficiently.

Working side by side with the studio engineer, the producer guides your performance, keeping your vision on track while pulling out your absolute best takes. Their seamless collaboration ensures every creative choice serves the song, turning initial studio concepts into a captivating, release-ready final product.

Can I book if my song is unfinished

Yes. You can bring lyrics, a melody, chords, a beat, a voice note or a rough demo. Developing unfinished songs is a central part of our music production service.

Would I need to bring musicians to the studio

You do not need to bring additional session musicians to your studio recording.

As an accomplished multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years of industry experience, lead engineer and producer Paul Miles plays guitar, bass, and keyboards directly for your tracks.

Having Paul handle the live instrumentation in-house significantly reduces production costs and eliminates the hassle of hiring outside session players.

Can you produce music remotely

Yes. Our online mixing service is available to artists outside London. Contact us with details of your project and the files you currently have.

Do you work with first-time singers

Yes. We regularly work with complete beginners as well as established artists. Sessions are friendly, patient and adapted to your level of experience.

What should I bring to my session

Bring your lyrics, demo, beat or instrumental files and two or three reference songs that demonstrate the sound you like. If you are unsure what to prepare, contact us before your session.

What format will i receive my songs

At Select Recording Studios, we deliver your final tracks tailored to your specific needs. Upon session completion, you will receive high-resolution, uncompressed WAV files (24-bit/44.1kHz or higher) perfect for streaming distribution, along with MP3 versions for quick sharing and everyday listening.

For maximum flexibility, we can provide fully mixed masters, instrumental backings, acapellas, and individual multitrack stems for future remixing or live performances. Files are delivered digitally via secure download links or directly onto your USB drive.

To ensure long-term peace of mind, your session data is safely archived in our secure cloud backup system, ensuring your original recordings remain protected and easily retrievable whenever you need them.
